29 Days and Counting

Yesterday President Trump revealed in a tweet that today he would be making a “major announcement concerning the Humanitarian Crisis on our Southern Border and the shutdown”. Trump teased reporters by some details about his announcement to shift focus from the latest White House scandal involving Robert Mueller according to Vantiy Fair.

In Trump’s announcement, he proposed an idea to end the shutdown with an immigration deal which included a bill with temporary protection for undocumented immigrants and other measures for $5.7 billion in funding for the wall, according to Politico. The president’s solution was not favored by either party. Unfortunately the government is still shutdown leaving millions left to struggle. The shutdown has broken the record for the longest shutdown in history.

Unless you have been living under a rock, you would know that on December 22 President Trump administrated a government shut down over the funding of the wall . Our economy , government employees, and government funded programs have been hit hard by the repercussions and you may be too.

Let’s break it down. According to Census.com, there are approximately 89,004 government employees who haven’t received a pay check in a almost month, those hard working citizens, lose incentive each day they don’t get paid to perform their best at their job. Each of the government employees works in one of the government’s nine departments: the department of agriculture, the department of commerce, the department of justice, the department of homeland security, the department of housing and urban development, department of interior, department of state, department of transportation, and the department of treasury. This is important to understand because this it can effect the amount of fruits and veggies you can juice, ice cream you consume, how early you need to wake up to catch your flight, if you’re breakfast includes a bland omelet, and the amount of time your new outfit arriving in the mail via USPS is going to take.

Thankfully on January 16th the department of agriculture opened up to provide resources for farmers and ranchers, according to CNBC. There has been no word on other 8 departments but President Trump is going to make a announcement tomorrow to discuss the future of the shutdown. Check back here tomorrow for an update!
